White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles Says She Is Cancer-Free

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles said Wednesday she is cancer-free after receiving treatment for early-stage breast cancer that was diagnosed in March.

“Some personal news I’m grateful to share. After a medical appointment at the Mayo Clinic this week, my pathology results came back clear. I am cancer free,” Wiles said in a post on X. “Thank you to my family, friends, doctors, and everyone who prayed for me, checked in, and supported me along the way.”

Trump administration officials responded with congratulations.

“Thank God! Best news of the week!” Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, posted on X.

“What incredible news for one of the strongest women I know,” said Kelly Loeffler, administrator of the Small Business Administration, in an X post. “So many prayers have been answered today. Susie, we are all celebrating with you and your family—and wishing you continued health and happiness!”

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins called it “amazing news” from “my amazing friend.”

“We are so grateful to God for this blessing and for seeing you through this journey with strength, courage, and faith,” Rollins said on X. “Praying for continued health, strength, and many more blessings for you and your family. I know there are prayer warriors across this country who have been lifting you up, and we are so incredibly thankful for you.”

President Donald Trump posted on March 16 that Wiles was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

“During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House, which makes me, as President, very happy!” Trump said in his post. “Her Strength and her Commitment to continue doing the job she loves, and does so well, while undergoing treatment, tells you everything you need to know about her.”

Forbes named Wiles one of the world’s 100 most powerful women, ranking her 66th on its 2025 list.

Wiles managed Trump’s successful 2024 campaign before becoming the first woman in U.S. history to serve as White House chief of staff.

Forbes said its rankings were based on money, media attention, impact, and spheres of influence. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen topped the list, followed by European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde. Wiles was among 17 newcomers.

Trump praised Wiles at a U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum in November, calling her the “most powerful woman in the world” and saying she could “take out a country with one phone call.”

Wiles began her political career as a staff assistant to Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.) in 1979. She later worked on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign and served in his administration.

She went on to manage prominent Republican campaigns, leading Rick Scott’s successful 2010 campaign for Florida governor and aiding Ron DeSantis’s gubernatorial campaign in 2018. She also helped Trump win Florida in 2016 and 2020 before co-chairing his 2024 campaign with Chris LaCivita.

She is the daughter of NFL broadcaster and former professional football player Pat Summerall. Wiles grew up in New Jersey, and Kemp—who gave her first political job—had been Summerall’s teammate with the New York Giants.
