A Toronto school custodian has been arrested following an allegation that he sexually assaulted a student earlier this year.

The accused has been identified as Sureshkaran Paramanathan, 50, of Markham, according to the Toronto Police Service (TPS) in a news release on Aug. 31.

Police said they were called in to a school in the Wilson Avenue and Dufferin Street area this May, and learned that a student had been allegedly sexually assaulted by a custodian.

This prompted members of the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre to start an investigation and, on Aug. 18, arrested the accused.

TPS say the accused has been a custodian at the school since April 2013. He is charged with five counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference and one count for exposing genitals to a person under 16 years of age for sexual purpose.

Officers are asking anyone who may have information about the case to contact them.
