A longtime criminal with a history of violence against women has been released by a Vancouver court back into the community, the city’s police department is warning.
Jordan McIntosh has 49 criminal convictions, including 11 for violence or weapons, the Vancouver Police Department said in a March 19 advisory.
McIntosh, 42, was arrested on March 2, nearly four months after police say he cut off an ankle monitor, which he was ordered to wear while serving a conditional sentence for a 2024 case involving two counts of assault and one count of breaching a release order.
A conditional sentence allows offenders in British Columbia to serve a sentence in the community under strict conditions such as house arrest or curfews. A judge can send the offender to jail if conditions are breached.
The Intimate Partner Violence and Risk Assessment Unit of the city police took part in the search after McIntosh’s Dec. 4, 2025, disappearance due to his prior history of violence against women, police said.
Police eventually traced him to a Water Street lodging house on March 2, the advisory said.
“McIntosh tried to escape by jumping out of a window,” Victoria Police Department Sgt. Adam Donaldson said in the press release. “Fortunately, our officers planned for that scenario, and he was taken into custody with the help of a police dog.”
McIntosh remained in custody until a breach of conditional sentence order hearing on March 18.
“The court ultimately decided to release him back into the community to serve his sentence with another ankle monitor, rather than keep him in custody,” police said.
No photo or description of McIntosh was included in the public advisory.
Assaults on Women
McIntosh’s release comes a week after Vancouver police announced the arrest of a man who is suspected in a series of assaults against women in the city’s downtown.

Police launched an investigation on Jan. 29 after the assault of a 44-year-old woman by a man she didn’t know while she was walking in the vicinity of Granville and Dunsmuir Streets. At least three other women later reported being assaulted by a man with a similar description, according to a March 11 police press release.
Each incident involved a man allegedly elbowing or shoulder-checking the victims while passing them on downtown sidewalks—in some cases knocking them to the ground, police said.
A suspect was arrested on March 5 by investigators from the force’s Special Investigation Section, with assistance from patrol officers in the downtown core.
Dylan Brandon Gaita, 28, has been charged with four counts of assault in connection with incidents that occurred between Jan. 29 and Jan. 31.
“Unprovoked violence against strangers is an ongoing concern for everyone, and we know that sometimes these incidents are not immediately reported to police,” Const. Megan Lui said in the press release. “Although we’ve made an arrest in these cases, there may still be additional victims, witnesses, or people with information.”
Lui encouraged anyone with information about the assaults to contact police.
