Blockbuster Inc., the video-rental store chain, announced on Wednesday that it signed two movie studio deals to rent movies on the same day the DVDs go on sale.

The video-rental chain signed agreements with the Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment this week, following a similar deal with Warner Bros., which was announced late last month.

Blockbuster hopes the deals will give it a leg-up on the competition—namely, Netflix Inc. and the DVD-rental kiosk Redbox—which do not have such deals in place.

“These important steps with three of the leading movie studios will continue a steady supply of top-rated movies for Blockbuster customers," said Tom Casey, Blockbuster Inc. CFO, in a company statement.
