From July 26 to Aug. 4, 2025, South Korea’s Daecheon Beach transforms into a vibrant playground of music, mud, and cultural celebration as the Boryeong Mud Festival returns for its 28th year. Drawing millions of global visitors since 1998, the festival is famous for its mineral-rich mud—prized for its skincare benefits and affectionately called a “natural spa” by Mayor Kim Dong-il.

This year’s centerpiece is a K-pop spectacular presented by M Countdown, Mnet’s flagship music program that helped launch the Korean Wave. On the special stage, a variety of performances are featured, including the World DJ Festival and K-POP shows spanning various genres. On Aug. 7, the country’s leading K-POP chart show, M COUNTDOWN (on Mnet), will be held, and on Aug. 9, a special broadcast of K-POP Super Live (on KBS2) will take place, bringing world-class stage production and fan-centered energy to the heart of Boryeong. These high-energy performances close out each day’s festivities and spotlight Korea’s entertainment industry at its most dynamic.

By day, festivalgoers can dive into an expansive lineup of mud-themed activities—now refined and better organized than ever. Highlights include various mud activities such as the mud prison zone and the ever-popular Color Mud Zone, allowing visitors to soak up both fun and function as they cover themselves in the region’s rejuvenating silt.

For families, dedicated programs like the Children’s Mud Experience and Waterpark Zone ensure safe, splashy fun for all ages. Meanwhile, pet owners can relax in the Pet Mud Zone, designed for dogs and their humans to share in the festivities—adding an inclusive touch that’s rare for global festivals.

The Youth Hope Booth, run by local entrepreneurs under 39, offers a community-driven marketplace where guests can shop for souvenirs, snacks, and handcrafted items at affordable prices—all while supporting Boryeong’s small business economy.
Above the beach, the Korean Air Force Black Eagles will dominate the skies with their aerobatic performances, adding gravity-defying flair to the seaside celebrations.

Getting there is effortless. Just about a two-hour trip from Seoul via KORAIL train or express bus, Boryeong is one of Korea’s most accessible coastal cities. Tickets start at $7.50 USD and are available through the official website and open marketplaces.

For visitors from Seoul, the special “Seoul–Boryeong Mud Train” will run on July 26, Aug. 1, and Aug. 8, with 400 seats available per trip (1,200 seats in total). This exclusive train departs from Seoul Station and includes stops at Gaehwa Art Park, the historic Boryeong Traditional Market (with over 90 years of history), and the festival itself—all in a single day.

Travel packages include round-trip train tickets between Seoul and Daecheon, local shuttle service, admission to Gaehwa Art Park and the Boryeong Mud Festival, and a 10,000 KRW (about $7.50) Onnuri gift certificate distributed to passengers on the day of travel.
