Chilean demonstrators clashed with police on the outskirts of Santiago as they marked the “Day of the Young Combatant” before dawn on Saturday (March 29). Twenty six people were detained in the capital after riot police confronted demonstrators, and five were detained in other cities. Riot police used tear gas to break up one gathering in Santiago. Young protesters threw stones and molotov cocktails at police and created flaming barricades to block off early morning traffic.
