NEW YORK—Promoting road safety, New York Knicks players teamed up with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Tuesday.

Baron Davis and former player Larry Johnson joined the Heads Up street safety ad campaign to appeal mainly to people texting on the move.

Davis takes part in a quirky commercial where he calls out to New Yorkers disapprovingly for breaking basic safety rules while walking, driving, or riding.

The campaign includes print ads that appeal to younger generations with humorous phrases such as, “That breakup text can wait.”

The Heads Up ads began appearing in April at high-traffic locations across the city, including bus shelters, video screens at subway entrances, and storefronts.

DOT plans to place ads at locations of serious traffic crashes. Ads have also been printed on 250,000 coffee cup sleeves, available in delis and coffee shops around the city.

Traffic fatalities in the city have declined more than 40 percent in the last decade, the DOT said in a release.
