Metro-North service on the Harlem and New Haven lines was delayed during the evening rush hours on Monday after a teen boy jumped in front of a train, officials said.
NBC New York reported that the boy, who was enrolled at Fordham Prep, was killed by the train. The incident took place near the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.

Metro-North lines were delayed in each direction. On social media, commuters at Grand Central Terminal said there were huge crowds inside the station.
The teen was hit at around 3:30 p.m. by a northbound train, The New York Daily News reported. The victim was initially described as an “unauthorized person on the tracks,” LoHud.com reported.

Officials said an investigation would create delays between 30 and 45 minutes, but by 5:30 p.m., they were extended up to 60 minutes.

Sources close to the matter told the Daily News that it was likely a suicide. The boy’s name has not been released.
The MTA said that additional police officers will be stationed on platforms near Fordham Prep on Tuesday.
