Eight elderly Chinese residents in Montgomery County, Maryland, were presented awards by Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett on July 12, for helping Chinese people withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations.
Leggett wrote, “In Recognition and Appreciation of your volunteer efforts in speaking to tourists from China about the importance of the sacred renunciation from the Chinese Communist Party. This deed represents core American values of freedom and personal liberty. I commend you for your strong spirit of humanity. Your great work is making the world a more peaceful place. You are an inspiration to all of us. I want to express my sincere congratulations and best wishes.”
The recipients were Tao Lisha, Wu Yajin, Yang Linying, Sun Shiming, Yang Suhua, Tao Xinfa, Xue Xianwei, and Lin Shuhua.
They have been volunteering at various tourist attractions in Washington, D.C. and have helped people quit Chinese Communist organizations since the end of 2004, when The Epoch Times published the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” (Nine Commentaries).
Wishing Chinese People the Best Future
Lisha Tao told The Epoch Times that they have been doing this because, from the bottom of their hearts, they want to offer Chinese people the opportunity to make a moral, spiritual choice and have a good future.
“During the Chinese regime’s 60-year rule, its political movements in the first three decades killed at least 80 million Chinese people,” Tao said.
“Chinese officials’ rampant corruption in the last three decades has really damaged the country and harmed the people,” Tao said. “This tidal wave of quitting the CCP reflects a widespread awakening of the Chinese people to the Party’s control of one’s heart and mind.”
Tao also noted the Chinese regime’s persecution against Falun Gong, a Chinese spiritual practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, which has been persecuted by the regime since 1999. “By clarifying the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong and reminding people of the traditional opinion that good is rewarded and evil is punished, we help people make their withdrawals from the CCP and its affiliations.” Tao said.

Tao has helped nearly 1,700 people quit the CCP in face-to-face conversations or over the phone, including Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping’s cousin, who visited Washington, D.C. two years ago.
Tao said the CCP’s internal crisis has prompted a significant increase in quitting Communist organizations among Chinese tourists in Washington, D.C., noting that many people who already understand the truth are taking the initiative to renounce the CCP.
A couple of cadres from Northeast China said they thought the CCP is far more wicked than what is exposed in the Nine Commentaries. Tao recounted their words, where they said “The CCP has been rotten to the core. We see its nature very clearly from within its organizations. Even long ago we could hardly bear it. Today you’ve provided us with this opportunity and we are quitting the Party now.”
Tao said one Chinese tourists quit a Communist organization on the spot, and then loudly told everyone on the tour bus, “Quit the CCP and have a bright future. I’ve quit the CCP using the alias ‘Brightness.'”
