NFL Player Steve Smith Sr. Asks Autistic North Carolina Teen to Prom

Baltimore Ravens receiver and former Pro Bowler with the Panthers—Steve Smith Sr.—will be taking an autistic teenage girl to her senior prom.

Aubrey Bridges, of Charlotte, North Carolina, suffers from a rare disorder called Vein of Galen Malformation, which affect the blood vessels in the brain, thus causing auditory processing delay and speech apraxia.

Still, that did not stop the NFL star from asking the Charlotte teen to prom last week.

“Hey Aubrey, Steve Smith here. I want to know if you would let me take you to the prom,” he said in a video.

She said yes, of course.

“I am excited because Steve Smith Sr. asked me to prom,” Bridges told the Gaston Gazette. “I am so happy that I danced. Brandon and Elizabeth Lindsey, my friends at Dream on 3, are making my dream come true.”

According to ESPN, Smith was contacted by Dream On 3, a non-profit organization located in Charlotte. Its mission is to help sports dreams come true for children with chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities or life-altering conditions.

Bridges enjoys basketball, and even tried out for the basketball team at her school.

She will also be graduating from high school this upcoming June.
