Oakland A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy was released from California Pacific Medical Campus in San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon after being admitted with life-threatening injuries just last Wednesday, according to a report on MLB’s website.

McCarthey was struck by a line drive off the bat of the Angels’ Erick Aybar last Wednesday in Oakland, suffering an epidural hemorrhage, a brain contusion and a skull fracture. He then underwent a two-hour surgery to relieve pressure in his head, evacuate the hemorrhage and stabilize the fracture.

McCarthy issued a statement upon leaving the hospital. “From the bottom of our hearts, [my wife] Amanda and I want to thank everyone who was involved in responding to and treating my injury.”

The 29-year-old McCarthy is currently 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA in 18 starts this season.
