President Obama Releases Statement on Prince’s Death

President Barack Obama released a statement following the tragic death of pop icon Prince on Thursday.

The White House’s official Twitter account posted this tweet just hours after Prince Rogers Nelson was discovered unconscious in an elevator on his Paisley Park estate.

Police Release Statement

Around the same time, the Carver County Sheriff’s office released a statement, with some more details.

Along with the president and the sheriff’s office, Prince’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, released a statement, one of the first to confirm his death.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Just a few days prior, a health issue prompted his private jet to make an emergency landing and rush him to the hospital. He was forced to cancel two shows. It was later released that he was suffering from the flu.

Prince won 7 Grammy’s, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award.

He was 57.
