Science Fiction-Like Google Glasses Priced $1,500

At a San Francisco conference on Wednesday, Google Inc. unveiled its science fiction-like virtual reality glasses that will start shipping next year at $1,500 each.

Since the glasses are still under development in the company’s mysterious Google X lab, the glasses are still bug prone, Google co-founder Sergey Brin said at the developer conference. Google also faces regulatory hurdles that bar the glasses from being shipped outside the United States.

For now, only U.S.-based attendees at the I/O developers conference are eligible to buy the “Google Glass Explorer Edition,” while the public could pre-order starting on Wednesday but will not get the gadget until next year.

At the opening day of the conference, a parachute team jumped out of a blimp wearing the glasses, a group of BMX bikers wearing the glasses tore across the roof of San Francisco’s Moscone Center above the 6,000 attendees, then a rapeller finished the demonstration by scaling down the walls of the conference hall.

Throughout the entire demonstration, a livestream broadcast their point-of-views to the attendees.
