The Oakland A’s announced that 27-year-old former minor-leaguer Sean Murphy has passed away.

“Sean Murphy, who played six seasons in the Oakland A’s farm system, passed away unexpectedly on Monday in Arizona,” the team said. Murphy was drafted by the Athletics in 2010.

Murphy, a right-handed pitcher, was drafted in the 33rd round six years ago out of Keystone College in LaPlume, PA. Mostly used as a starter, Murphy pitched five seasons in Oakland’s system (2010–14) going 32–32 with a 4.26 ERA in 105 games (81 starts).

The 6-foot-6-inch, 215-pound Murphy reached Sacramento (AAA) in 2014 before undergoing Tommy John surgery that September. He sat at all of the 2015 season while recovering.
