TAINAN, Taiwan—In the afternoon of March 16, Mr. Hwang Kun-Hu enjoyed his first encounter with Shen Yun’s performance. “I felt so emotional,” Mr. Hwang said while he praised the dance programs. Hwang was a national policy adviser at Taiwan’s Presidential Palace. He is currently the president of Taiwan Friends Association.
“I felt very emotional after watching it. I experienced the classic elegant dancing. The dances were very expressive, absolutely fantastic!”
New York-based Shen Yun aims to restore 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture, according to the company’s website.
“The costumes were dazzling and gorgeous. I kept wondering who designed it. I think maybe there is a team working on everything from dancing to costume design and music. The artists and staff had to put in a lot of work to make it happen.”
“There are many dancing artists in each program and their tight coordination is beyond my imagination—that many people moving in exactly the same way. The celestial maidens, how did they dance in such a highly precise coordination?”
“Perhaps if the politicians can watch Shen Yun, they might change and cherish the common cultural heritage more,” said Hwang.
‘I Feel that Lord Buddha Is Really Coming!’

Mr. Chou Kun-Tsung has been devoting his life to advocate for the fishermen’s rights. In his busy schedule as the President of the Tainan County Fishermen’s Rights Association, he watched Shen Yun in the afternoon on March 16. “I don’t know what to tell you, it is just beyond excellent!” Chou said excitedly.
Chou advised everyone who wants to watch New York-based Shen Yun to purchase the best seats and enter the theater on time. “If you miss just a little bit of it or you cannot see the whole picture of the performance; it would be a waste so outrageous that you will regret for life,” said Chou.
“I have never see a performance like this in Taiwan. I don’t know how the backdrop technology could make things seem so genuine and lively. Like when the Monkey King beat the ogre and when the Lord Buddha appeared to offer salvation in the calamity,” Chou praised.
“When the Lord Buddha appeared, I felt that he was really here in front of me. I was so moved and emotional.”
The performance was definitely worth the price he paid, Chou believed. “I will tell my coworkers to come and watch this top-class performance. Just seeing the spectacular costumes was worth the money. The artists were so … lively and always carried friendly smiles on their faces. That is truly professional and no one can do that without a long training process. I am very happy today!”
