Reality television star Darrell Sheets, best known as “The Gambler” on the hit A&E series “Storage Wars,” has died at the age of 67, according to local authorities.

In a statement, the Lake Havasu City Police Department confirmed Sheets was found dead on April 22 at his Arizona residence, from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officers were dispatched to his residence at approximately 2 a.m. following reports of a deceased individual. The male, later identified as Sheets, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under active investigation and is being handled by the Criminal Investigations Unit with the Lake Havasu City Police Department.

Sheets’ body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation, with additional details to be released as they become available.

The Epoch Times reached out to the Lake Havasu City Police Department and the A&E network for further comment on the matter, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

In response to the news, Sheets’ “Storage Wars” co-star of 15 years, Rene Nezhoda, offered his condolences and prayers to the Sheets family in a post on Instagram. The two displayed a competitive yet entertaining on-screen dynamic that was often viewed as tension or dislike.

“Unfortunately, Darrell Sheets took his own life,” Nezhoda told followers on social media. “I know a lot of you guys think we hated each other because we competed a lot on the show, and you know, we had our moments. We had our run-ins, but that’s because we were both competitors, right?”

“Deep down, me and Darrell were friends,” he said. “We talked every now and then. He is a very hard worker that cared more than anyone I’ve probably ever met about their family, about his son, about [his granddaughter] Zoie.”

Nezhoda went on to address the cyberbullying Sheets was experiencing prior to his death, claiming he was being “tormented” online, and urged law enforcement to further investigate the matter.

“Just because you watch this on television doesn’t mean you know us,” Nezhoda said. “It doesn’t mean you know what we’re about. Also, it doesn’t entitle you to bully somebody. That’s not just us, that’s anybody, that’s any athlete, that’s anybody. You shouldn’t cyberbully at all.”

“Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that’s been cyberbullying him and tormenting him,” Nezhoda added. “I really hope they [law enforcement] look into that guy and it’s just not a pass, because it’s just not right, guys. Be better.”

Sheets rose to fame on “Storage Wars” following its premiere in 2010 and appeared on the show until 2023. The reality series follows professional buyers who bid on abandoned storage units that have been put up for auction.

Sheets earned his nickname, “The Gambler,” for taking a high-risk, high-reward approach to bidding. In 2019, the California native suffered a heart attack and relocated to Arizona, where he ran “Havasu Show Me Your Junk,” a local antique shop.

He is survived by his son, Brandon Sheets, who was also featured on the A&E series, following in his footsteps, and his daughter, Tiffany Sheets.
