Pierre “P” Thomas, co-founder and CEO of hip-hop label Quality Control Music, has been hospitalized following a medical emergency.
The Atlanta-based record company released a social media statement on Aug. 21, after reports of his hospitalization began circulating online.
“We want to clarify that Pierre ‘P’ Thomas is alive and currently hospitalized receiving medical care,” read the Instagram post.
“We ask that everyone keep P and his family in their thoughts and prayers and respectfully give them the privacy and space they need during this time.”
“We deeply appreciate everyone’s concern, support, prayers, and loving energy right now,” the statement concluded.
The statement did not directly disclose the circumstances for the health emergency. However, TMZ reported Thomas suffered a heart attack while in Las Vegas and is being treated in a hospital intensive care unit.
The outlet reports family members are by his side, as doctors determine the next steps in his care. Details about his condition and prognosis have not been publicly released.
The Epoch Times reached out to representatives for Thomas for further information on the matter, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
Thomas co-founded Quality Control Music with Kevin “Coach K” Lee in 2013, and is widely regarded as one of the key executives behind the rise of several major names in hip-hop.
The two initially built the company around artist management and music publishing, while also assembling a team focused on radio and promotion.
The label played a major role in establishing the careers of chart-topping hip-hop artists including Migos, Lil Baby, and City Girls.
Per their official website, the company has also used data and internet-based analytics to identify where its artists have the strongest audiences, allowing the label to focus promotional efforts on specific markets.
Beyond music, the label expanded into other areas of the entertainment industry including film, television, and sports marketing through “QC Sports.”
In 2023, the company was acquired by HYBE America in a deal reported by Variety to be worth approximately $300 million, while Thomas and Lee remained involved in day-to-day operations.
“HYBE are perfect partners for Quality Control as we come together to take our story and work global,” Thomas said at the time. “All of HYBE’s leaders are entrepreneurs with phenomenal, combined history finding talent and taking it to the highest levels.
“Taking QC worldwide requires key partners like this who understand building something from the bottom and aiming sky high,” his statement continued. “It matters to us greatly their grasp of culture and acutely seeing what QC has built and the limitless path of where it can go.”
