Massie Loses Primary to Trump-Backed Gallrein; 17,000 Under Evacuation Orders in Southern California | NTD Good Morning (May 20)
The influence of President Donald Trump continues to impact major elections, with Congressman Thomas Massie falling to Trump-endorsed challenger Ed Gallrein in the Kentucky GOP primary, with Gallrein garnering nearly 55 percent of the vote. Gallrein will now face Democrat Melissa Strange in November’s general election.
More than 17,000 people are under evacuation orders in Southern California, as firefighters continue to battle the fast-moving Sandy Fire near Simi Valley. The fire department says the wildfire has burned more than 1,600 acres. Nearly 900 firefighters and multiple partner agencies are working to contain the blaze. As of Monday evening, the fire has been 5 percent contained.
The New York Knicks overcame a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. New York’s Jalen Brunson finished with 38 points, as the Knicks won in overtime 115–104. This is their eighth straight win, and they will be hosting Game 2 on Thursday.
