Former analyst and NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been officially dropped from his position at Fox Sports, after an Indianapolis stabbing incident and arrest last month.
“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a spokesperson with Fox News said on Nov. 7. “There will be no further comment at this time.”
Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees will replace Sanchez, subsequently joining Fox’s No. 4 NFL crew alongside announcer Adam Amin and sideline reporter Kristina Pink.
Brees, a former quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, will announce his first game for the network on Nov. 16. He previously worked as an analyst for NBC, calling Notre Dame college football games, and was present in studio for “Football Night in America” on Sundays.
Earlier this season, Brees made a few appearances during “Fox NFL Sunday,” hinting at his possible future with the network. In a statement, he expressed his excitement and hope that his “passion for this game is reflected in the knowledge and insights I provide to the fans each Sunday.”
Following a two-decade career in the NFL, Brees retired in 2020 and is on the list of 52 modern-era players being considered for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.
“Drew is one of the best to ever play the game, and we couldn’t be more excited to have his prolific credentials and unique insights as part of our coverage on Sundays,” said Brad Zager, Fox Sports president of production and operations and executive producer. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Fox Sports family.”
Sanchez, who mainly played for the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles, has remained off-air since being arrested for a late-night stabbing altercation in downtown Indianapolis that left him hospitalized.
He sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper right torso during an alleged altercation with a 69-year-old truck driver in an alley on Oct. 4. He was in town to call the Las Vegas Raiders game against the Indianapolis Colts the following day.
As a result, he faces a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury in addition to his three initial misdemeanor charges.
The felony carries a maximum sentence of one to six years in prison, and was added after investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said they learned the extent of the victim’s injuries.
According to police records, the confrontation took place when Sanchez allegedly assaulted the individual over a parking spot at a hotel loading dock where he was assigned to work.
In reviewing surveillance footage, detectives said Sanchez was seen attempting to enter the cab of the victim’s truck, before physically assaulting him by shoving him up against a wall.
The victim proceeded to pepper-spray Sanchez before pulling out a knife to defend himself, said authorities. The truck driver suffered serious injuries, including a laceration to his left cheek.
Following the incident, Sanchez was arrested and charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Sanchez remains free on bond and his trial is slated to begin on Dec. 11.
