The FBI released photos Monday of a man suspected of being involved in a fatal shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island on Saturday.
Two people were killed and nine injured when a man opened fire in a classroom. The motive remains unknown, according to authorities.
Investigators described the suspect as a male about 5-foot-8, with a stocky build.
Photos released by the FBI on a poster depict a man wearing a blue and gray fleece-style jacket, dark pants, a dark beanie, and a black mask.
Local police also released a video showing what appears to be the same man pacing back and forth on a sidewalk at the university.
Authorities also updated the public Monday about the investigation in a tense press conference.
One suspect detained Sunday was released after authorities said the evidence no longer supported keeping him detained.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the gunman.
The two students killed were Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old aspiring neurosurgeon from Virginia, and Ella Cook, 19, a student leader of the university’s campus Republicans from Alabama.
The students were part of a study group preparing for an economics final when they were shot, according to investigators.
Members of the Brown College Republicans were “devastated,” the club’s president, Martin Bertao, said in a post on X.
“Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and her fellow classmates,” Bertao said. “Our prayers are with her family, our Brown CR’s, and the entirety of the campus as they heal from this tragedy.”
Umurzokov was helping a friend at the review session. He helped students who had just immigrated to the United States, Umurzokov’s sister, Samira Umurzokova said.
Only one of the nine people wounded had been released by Sunday, according to Brown University President Christine Paxson. One was in critical condition and seven were critical but stable.
During Monday’s press conference, Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee said law enforcement agencies were doing everything possible to catch the person responsible.
“We want to see the individual that pulled the trigger on these young kids identified, apprehended, and brought to justice,” McKee said.
Officials encouraged the public to share any personal videos or photos of the incident with the FBI.
