Helicopter Crashes Into New York’s Hudson River, Injuries Reported

A helicopter pilot was rescued after crashing into the Hudson River in New York City.

Fire department officials said that he was pulled from the Hudson River on May 15. He crashed in the water close to where the Lincoln Tunnel arrives into Manhattan, CNN reported.

The pilot was the only person on board, officials said. He is expected to survive.

Local station 1010 Wins reported that a heliport worker was injured by debris in the incident.

Footage shows the helicopter spinning out of control before it plunges into the famed river.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted: “Relieved to report there were no deaths or serious injuries after a helicopter incident on the Hudson river. Thank you to our first responders for your quick action. Please stay clear of 34th St and 12th Ave on the West Side so emergency response teams can complete their work.”

“He got sideways with it … it was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”

The New York City Police Department’s Counterterrorism agency urged people to avoid the area.
