New York authorities have a person of interest in custody in relation to the Nov. 16 shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, which took place in midtown Manhattan, according to police on Monday. No charges have been filed.

The NYPD spokesperson did not provide any information on the detained individual’s part in the shooting, and underscored that the investigation remains ongoing. The arrest takes place more than three weeks after the shooting, which left Boyd critically wounded.

NYPD did not immediately return a request for more details.

It was not clear what happened before the shooting, which occurred just after 2 a.m. outside Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Two shots were fired, with one bullet striking Boyd in the abdomen.

The assailant immediately fled the scene.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that police had made no arrests at the time, and the probe into the prelude events continues without clear leads on motive.

Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition, according to Mayor Eric Adams’s office.

Three days after being shot, Boyd said on a post on his Instagram Stories (no longer available), that he was “coming along, starting to breathe on my own now.”

The 29-year-old was released from the hospital but needed to be readmitted.

“I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues,” Boyd wrote on Nov. 26. “I love and appreciate everyone of yall dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you.”

Two days later, he posted: “I need you Father God. This one bout to be Legendary!” There hadn’t been any updates since.

Boyd surprised his Jets teammates when he visited the team’s facility to attend a special teams meeting on Dec. 3.

Boyd was sidelined earlier due to a shoulder injury during a practice over the summer, delaying his Jets debut.

A native of Gilmer, Texas, Boyd had a successful college football career while playing at the University of Texas. He was drafted in 2019, 217th overall by the Minnesota Vikings, where he played during his first four seasons on special teams.

In 2023, he played for the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal. He played in 17 games, mostly on special teams. Later that year, he worked out with the Houston Texans’ practice squad before being placed on the active roster for two games.

In 2024, he appeared in 17 games with Houston. The Jets signed him in March this year for their special teams.
