The hospital where Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay is being treated released another update on his condition on June 11, following an attempted assassination that saw him shot during an election campaign event.
The University Hospital Fundación Santa Fe in Bogotá, Colombia, published the latest report on the condition of the Democratic Center party’s presumed candidate and senator.
“Amid the severity of his clinical condition, there are signs of neurological improvement due to a decrease in cerebral edema. Likewise, there is evidence of a trend toward hemodynamic stabilization,” the hospital said of the senator’s stabilized blood flow in a morning statement on social media.
“Mr. Uribe Turbay remains in critical condition and is under strict neurological monitoring and comprehensive care with the necessary support,” while he continues to receive care in the intensive care unit, added a statement issued by Dr. Adolfo Llinás Volpe, medical director of the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, who signed the latest report.
On June 10, the hospital reported that Uribe’s condition remained critical but stable.
In a separate statement, the presidential candidate’s father, Miguel Uribe Londoño, expressed his gratitude for the expressions of solidarity and prayers for his son’s recovery.
“At this difficult time, when my son Miguel is fighting for his life, I want to say thank you,” Uribe Londoño said via Senator Uribe’s X account.
“Thank you to those who donated blood. Thank you to the millions of Colombians and people around the world for your prayers. Thank you all for your moving displays of affection and solidarity,” he added. “Miguel, in the midst of the pain and dismay that overwhelms us, has managed to unite this country in a single voice that repudiates violence.”
“Delia and I ask that we continue to pray for Miguel’s life and that we remain united in a single cause: that Colombia once again become a safe country and that there be peace and tranquility for all,” he said.
The senator’s mother, Diana Turbay, died in the 1990s.
Turbay, daughter of former Colombian President Julio César Turbay (1978-1982) and a renowned Colombian journalist, was kidnapped on the orders of drug lord Pablo Escobar on August 30, 1990, and later killed during a failed rescue attempt on Jan. 25, 1991.
More than 34 years later, on June 7, his son, Senator Uribe, was attending a campaign event for the 2026 presidential elections in a park in the Fontibón neighborhood of Bogotá when he was shot several times in the back at around 5 p.m. local time.

Following the violent incident, the Colombian Congress, through the Senate Steering Committee, organized a mass to pray for Uribe’s health.
The international community has also expressed its support for the senator, and the Democratic Center party called for the suspension of all public institutions in the country on Monday in solidarity with the presidential candidate and his family.
