One Nation’s popularity has surged to new heights in Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales (NSW), with Roy Morgan polling showing a massive swell in support across all age demographics.

The SMS poll was conducted with 2,108 participants from Feb. 16-19.

It found both the NSW Labor government and opposition Liberal-National Coalition losing large chunks of support to the conservative-leaning One Nation.

The Pauline Hanson-led party surged 28 points to hold 30 percent of the state’s voting intention—overtaking Labor on 25 percent, the Liberals on 19 percent, and the Greens on 12.5 percent.

Polling also shows One Nation moving up in the Sydney metro region to 25.5 percent, just behind Labor’s 26 percent.

In regional NSW it was a different story with One Nation on 38 percent of the vote compared to Labor’s 23.5 percent.

“If a New South Wales state election were held now there would likely be a hung Parliament with much uncertainty about the results in many electorates,” Roy Morgan wrote in a press release.

“The second, and third, preference decisions of voters will be more important than ever in determining the result of next year’s New South Wales state election.”

The research firm also found One Nation support stronger among men compared to women.

Men were 53.5 percent in favour of the party, compared to 26.5 percent of women.

But support among ages remained relatively consistent, with 28.5-32 percent support coming from all four major age groupings.

The party posted a statement online in response to the results.

“First, Victoria showed a surge, now the numbers are climbing strongly across NSW,” the party said.

“One Nation has a solid suite of policies aimed at making life easier, cutting waste, easing the tax burden and backing everyday families and small business and the polling is starting to reflect it.”

The party has enjoyed consistently strong polling across multiple companies since late last year.

In response, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned about One Nation dividing the nation.

“One Nation is a political movement that focuses on dividing Australia and pitting Australian against Australian,” Albanese told Sky News Australia.

“I don’t think they come up with positive solutions.

“They amplify grievances rather than come up with solutions.

“And I think that hope and optimism and developing plans for a positive future is what Australia needs.”
