Here are 5 tips on preventing holiday fires from the National Fire Protection Association:

1. Connect no more than three strands of lights

2. Connect no more than 50 bulbs for screw-in light sets

3. Keep your Christmas tree at least 3 feet from any heat source, such as candles or heat vents

4. Keep any candles at least a foot away from anything that burns
