NEW YORK—The 9/11 Memorial was forced to close Wednesday afternoon following a minor construction accident at WTC4, the second accident in as many days at the site.

According to a FDNY spokesperson the call came in at 11:30 a.m. A crane was lifting a beam when the load shifted causing the beam to slam into windows on the 45th and 46th floors. Pieces of glass fell to Liberty Street below, however no one was injured.

Police shut off access to the 9/11 Memorial as well as the surrounding block, including Zuccotti Park, for public safety reasons.

On Tuesday a construction worker fell 40 feet landing on a steel rod. He survived and is expected to recover.

The two incidents follow a milestone on Monday, when the final beam was put into place at the site.
