Angelina Jolie Honored by Producers Guild

The Producers Guild of America announced on Tuesday that its Stanley Kramer Award will go to In The Land of Blood and Honey, the motion picture set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War written and directed by Angelina Jolie and produced by Jolie, Tim Headington, Graham King and Tim Moore.

“We are extremely honored that the Guild has chosen to recognize our film. We are truly privileged to join the ranks of past recipients and to be associated with the great Stanley Kramer,” the group of producers said in a statement.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry Sets Record at Auction

The iconic Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor was known for her extensive jewelry collection. This week, one piece of the actress’s trove made history. A necklace of diamonds, rubies, and pearls, called La Peregrina, was sold at Christie’s auction house in New York for a record price of $11,842,500, the Associated Press reports.

Additional items in the auction of jewels and memorabilia included a 33.19-carat diamond ring received from former husband Richard Burton and a diamond bracelet given by long-time friend Michael Jackson.

Amanpour to Exit ‘This Week’

Television journalist Christiane Amanpour will leave her post as host of ABC’s This Week and take on the new role of Global Affairs anchor, working across all ABC News platforms, the network has announced.

Amanpour shared her enthusiasm in a press release saying, “This is an exciting and unique opportunity for me to take my love of storytelling to primetime at ABC News. I am looking forward to getting back into the field to report stories on global issues that matter greatly to the American people. This role is groundbreaking, bold and very different! I am thrilled and honored.”

George Stephanopoulos will take over at This Week, according to ABC News.

 

SAG Award Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Enjoying the most attention in motion pictures was the big-screen adaptation of the novel The Help, receiving four nominations. “The Artist” was nominated three times.

In television, Modern Family led the pack with five nominations, and 30 Rock and Dexter each received three nods.

Awards will be presented on Jan. 29. Fans can watch the ceremony live on cable networks TNT and TBS.
