Warner Bros.’ new superhero film, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” jumped to the number one spot, reeling in a whopping $27.7 million in sales on opening night, March 24.
The Zack Snyder-directed film elbowed its way into the history books with the seventh highest Thursday preview showing in history, nudging past “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which made $26.6 million on opening night n 2015. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” holds the all-time record at $57 million when it previewed back in December 2015.
However, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” did set a record of its own, with the highest opening weekend for Easter, overthrowing previous record holder “Furious 7.”

Despite dismal reviews, fans were more than eager to see Batman (played by Ben Affleck) and Superman (played by Henry Cavill) battle it out, a follow up to “Man of Steel,” released in 2013. As a bonus, fans will also get to see Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman debut on the big screen.

A preview of another sequel that did well on Thursday was, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” The followup to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” starring Nia Vardalos, raked in a little over $1 million and is projected to do close to 15 million on it’s official March 25 release.
Moviegoers can see both “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” when officially released on March 25.
