NEW YORK—Mayor Michael Bloomberg, attending the re-opening of the Fairway Market in Red Hook, Brooklyn, was given an airbrushed portrait of himself.

Fairway owner Howard Glickburg presented the portrait, which depicts the mayor looking off into the distance, deep in thought. Fairway representatives did not provide much information about the artists, according to Gothamist, but above the signature is written “90°,” a possible clue.

The mayor looks gleeful while being presented with the portrait in a photo Crain’s New York reporter Andrew Hawkins posted on Twitter.

Bloomberg receives about 20 unsolicited gifts a month from New Yorkers and others, as well as thousands of letters—keeping a staff of 13 to sort through it all and catalogue some of it.

The supermarket reopening is big news for Red Hook, which, along with other areas hit hard by Hurricane Sandy, has been struggling to recover.

After the re-opening, Bloomberg and other officials, including Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), went into Fairway for cereal and bagels.
