In addition to killing thousands of people and forcing hundreds of thousands from their homes to temporary shelters, the magnitude 9.0 earthquake has devastated the cars in Japan.

Earthquake-triggered fires burned out parked cars at the ports, while a powerful tsunami carried cars through the streets of costal towns, sent them to roofs, and packed them among debris.

Following the disasters, most Japanese automakers have decided to temporarily shut down their domestic facilities.
