The American swimmer who again attempted to swim from Cuba to Miami without a shark cage was pulled from the water, effectively ending her quest.

Diana Nyad, 62, swam for 41 hours straight and was stung by box jellyfish while sharks surrounded her as her team tried to discourage them from getting near her.

“It took Mother Nature’s biggest force—the weather—to get her out of the water (a second storm cell even larger than the first),” a statement on her website reads.

It has been Nyad’s goal since she was 8 years to swim the 103 miles between Florida and Cuba, according to her website.

“When can I get back in? I want full transparency that I was out. But I have plenty left in me and I want to go on,” Nyad said as she was pulled out of the water.

Last year, Nyad ended her attempt after swimming for more than 40 hours and covering 67 nautical miles.
