When people think of Paris, all kinds of images come up—history, food, architecture, art, spring romance. But when the fashion world thinks of Paris, there are two over-arching traits—elegance and taste.

When someone says he or she bought a coat in Paris, the expectation is much different than for a coat bought in most local stores. Designers always push the envelope, trends always run away from reality, and ugliness and beauty always raise their heads. Yet somewhere in the midst of it all, a true vision holds and some beautiful pieces shine through.

Here are some fashions from this season's Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2011 collections on March 5.
