NEW YORK—Governors shut down the entire transit systems, all vehicles were banned on New York City streets, airlines grounded thousands of flights losing small fortunes, and the entire NYC area was told to stay home on Tuesday. We were braced for the blizzard of the century, but it amounted to inches not feet of snow.

It’s tempting to blame bad decision-making, but the truth is, meteorologists got it wrong. 

At least one weatherman, Gary Szatkowski, the meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service’s office in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, was sincerely apologetic.
