On May 3rd at the MGM Grand hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather (45-0-26) will take on the hard hitting Marcos Maidana (35-3-31). Both fighter are coming off very dominate performances; Mayweather easily beat Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana dominated Floyd Mayweather’s protégé Adrian Broner. The question going into this fight is the same question going into every Mayweather fight, can anyone beat him. Does Marcos Maidana have any chance of beating Mayweather, I personally don’t think so, but there is always that old boxing cliché, a puncher always has a chance.

Maidana does have the power, and the ability to shock the world and knock Mayweather out. The only way Maidana is going to be able to accomplish this though is by cutting off the ring, and by attacking Mayweather’s body so he can slow Mayweather down and control the tempo of the fight. There is no way (in my opinion) that Maidana will be able to out box Mayweather, he is just too fast. Maidana needs to turn the ring into a phone booth, he needs to find away to get inside of that famous defense of Mayweathers and pound away on his body. He also needs to avoid getting caught into that one punch knock out mentality that most fighters seem to get caught in when they face off against Mayweather. The best thing Maidana has going for him is he’s got nothing to lose. This will probably be the biggest fight he will ever have in his career so why not go out there and give it everything you got. Maidana needs to find a way to make Floyd fight his fight, if he can do that he just might have a chance.

For Mayweather the formula should be the same, stay on the outside and box. Mayweathers going to use his outstanding speed and defense to win this fight, he will stick a couple punches then move away, stick a couple of punches then move away. Mayweather’s best asset in this fight, and all of his previous fights, is his speed; not just with his hands but his foot work. Mayweather is always in a position to land a shot or make his opponent miss. Floyd Mayweather can win this fight simply because he is the more skilled boxer, he will not allow Maidana to press him and force the fight to turn into a brawl. Mayweather is one of the most intelligent boxers in the game today, he seem to adapt and evolve in every fight that he competes in. Mayweather is at the top of the boxing world for a reason, he is arguably one of the best technically sound fighters to ever step foot in the ring, and I believe that is Floyd Mayweather we will see on May 3rd.

Mayweather vs Maidana is going to be another classic showcase of Mayweather’s skills. Whether you like Floyd or you don’t there is no denying that he is one of the best fighters in the history of the sport. Maidana is going to try to become the 1 in 45-1 and end Floyd Mayweather’s regain as the pound for pound king of the sport. Does Maidana have a chance yes, in the sport of boxing anything can happen, but can Maidana do it can he beat Floyd Mayweather? On May 3rd they will both walk into the ring one fighter with nothing to lose and the other with everything on line; can Maidana be the one or will Mayweather continue his reign, we will find out on Saturday.
