The original “Star Wars” trilogy is returning to the big screens—thanks to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
The movie chain, via its New York Twitter page, announced on April 12 that it’ll be screening “Episode IV—A New Hope,” “Episode V—The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Episode VI—Return of the Jedi” back-to-back-to-back in venues throughout the country.

“It’s always been a dream to show the original STAR WARS trilogy again—somehow, someway,” said Alamo Drafthouse’s VP of Special Events, Henri Mazza in a released statement. “Seeing the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time is a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun. When the films became available to book for screenings like these, we jumped at the chance to do something big.”
All three of the films will be presented in their 1997 re-release format.
“Return of the Trilogy” screenings will take place in over 20 cities throughout the month of August. Viewers are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters and to expect special surprises.
Most locations and dates are yet to be announced, but people can purchase tickets here once they go on sale on May 4 (known as Star Wars Day to fans, “May the fourth be with you.”).
