Former Buffalo Bills and University of Kansas football coach Turner Gill was hired as head coach at Liberty University, an FCS school in Lynchburg, Va.
“In our search for a new head football coach, almost every adviser recommended Turner Gill. Every indication is that he is a perfect fit for Liberty University. His experience is at the level where we would like to take our football program,” said Liberty Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell Jr., according to a statement on the school’s website.
Gill spent the last two seasons at Kansas after spending the previous four in Buffalo. While at Kansas the Jayhawks went 5-19 overall and dropped 16 of 17 Big 12 contests. He went 20-30 at Buffalo, winning the 2008 MAC Championship and advancing the program to their first ever bowl game—a 38–20 loss to Connecticut in the 2008 International Bowl.
