The U.S. Ski Team unveiled their new Speed Center at Copper Mountain Colorado on Tuesday, allowing for team members to train at the only full-length downhill facility in the world this early in the season.

USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt said on the team’s website, “The U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper provides an immediate boost to our alpine programs. This is a game-changing partnership and a legacy project that provides World Cup caliber speed training for all levels – from elite athletes to club programs – in a safe and access controlled environment.”

Skiers typically cannot find places to run full length practice runs prior to the season, which begins at the end of November. Getting their legs in shape earlier could lead to faster times and more medals for the team.

Marco Sullivan, a World Cup downhiller since 2001 told the Denver Post, “This is the first time I’ve had preseason training where I get to the bottom and my legs are tired, I’m breathing hard.”
