Stars appear on stage during the closing of the 2011 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards in Toronto in June, when the big three-day Bollywood bash made its debut in North America.
The Bollywood Oscars are held in a different country each year, and B.C. Premier Christy Clark put in a bid for the 2013 awards on her recent visit to India.
“Vancouver has a vast Indian population and one of the youngest Indian populations in Canada,” Clark said, according to BollywoodWorld.com.
“We put up a great show for the Winter Olympics 2010 and we will put up a great show for IIFA. If we can bring IIFA to Vancouver, there are so many things we can communicate through this wonderful medium, the business of doing business.”
Clark also invited actors, directors, producers, and others in the Hindi film industry to come to B.C. to shoot Indian movies.
