The Cheltenham Festival is an annual horse racing festival that takes place in Cheltenham, England. Since the late 19th century, jockeys and race-goers have dressed in the finest tweed outfits for the festival. And this year, one horse, at least, will be no different.
Bookmaker company William Hill has created a three-piece tweed suit for veteran race horse Morestead in order to celebrate the start of the Cheltenham 2016 Festival.
Jon Ivan Duke, of William Hill, thinks Morestead wears “the Tweed in style” and that he is the “Naomi Campbell of the modeling world.” Duke also estimates over 200 miles of tweed will be worn at what Sir Anthony McCoy calls “the most fashionable event in the racing calendar.”
The equine outfit, designer Emma Sandham-King notes, required 18 meters (about 60 feet) of Harris tweed from Scotland and took four weeks to make. It seems to match McCoy’s tweed suit.

Considered “racing royalty” in the equestrian sports world, McCoy has won the title of Champion Jockey a record 20 consecutive times over his 23-year career and has a total of 4,300 jump racing wins. McCoy retired in April 2015, so this will be his first Cheltenham Festival and racing calendar since his retirement.
