On Dec. 10, a sampan sank in an accident near Wang Lang Island, Hong Kong. Two people in the sampan fell into the sea. One person was safe, while the other went missing.

At 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 11, a ship passing by the lighthouse of Wang Lang Island, in the Eastern waters of Hong Kong, discovered and saw someone in the sea wearing a life jacket. Crew members rescued the male and then contacted the police

Hong Kong Marine, coast guards for Hong Kong waters, arrived at the scene after the report. The police confirmed that a 50-year-old man named Wong Pang was the person missing from the sampan accident. He was not injured upon preliminary examination.

Wong was escorted to the marine region for further investigation. In response to the Epoch Time’s inquiry, police said that both members of the sunken sampan, 52-year-old Wong and a 32-year-old male named Ng, were from mainland China.

The police have not ruled out the possibility that the men were attempting to illegally enter Hong Kong.

As of Dec. 12, 2022, Wong and Ng remain in police detention.
