Cody Johnson, a Texas-born country singer known for hits such as “On My Way to You” and “‘Til You Can’t,” has had to cancel his tour dates through the remainder of the year after undergoing surgery for a ruptured eardrum.
The decision was made “with a very heavy heart,” the musician posted Tuesday on Instagram.
“While battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection, I burst my eardrum. The severity of the rupture means I must undergo immediate surgery,” he wrote.
“The healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time. Without the surgery, my downtime could be months. I pray for full healing so I can get well and return to doing what I love.”
Johnson, 38, shared an update a few hours later, noting that he had just returned home after surgery in Houston.
“Got the nice little patch on my ear,” he said in an Instagram video, sporting a bandage on one ear.
“Doctor said the surgery went great, should make a full recovery with the proper rehab. I’ve got a lot of follow-up doctor’s appointments to go yet. I just wanted to say thanks for all the texts, the calls, the prayer requests, all the good wishes. I’ve really felt the love, so I’m gonna do my best to recharge, and I can’t wait to see you guys in 2026.”
According to Johnson’s official website, six concerts were impacted, including stops this month in Pittsburgh and Birmingham, as well as shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas at the end of the year.
The singer is expected to resume his tour in mid-February with a concert in Louisville, Kentucky, and has shows scheduled throughout the summer of 2026.

Johnson first announced that he was ill in September, sharing online that he had come down with a mild cold.
“I took every precaution that I could; IVs, meds, even sweated in the sauna,” he wrote on Sept. 18. “Unfortunately, today I woke up without a singing voice; severe cough, burning chest and throat.”
As a result, the performer had to postpone shows slated for that weekend in Columbus, Ohio, but assured fans that his team was working on getting the tour dates rescheduled for next year.
Born and raised in Sebastopol, a small community just outside of Huntsville, Johnson was a professional bull rider before making it big in country music.
The multiplatinum-selling artist made his major-label debut in 2019 with the album “Ain’t Nothin’ to It,” released on Warner Music Nashville. He had previously put out a handful of albums independently, including “Black and White Label” (2006), “Six Strings One Dream” (2009), “A Different Day” (2011), “Cowboy Like Me” (2014), and “Gotta Be Me” (2016).
In 2023, he released his ninth studio album, “Leather,” featuring the hit tracks “Dirt Cheap” and “The Painter.”
Once he resumes touring, Johnson is expected to head to Indio, California, in April to headline the 2026 Stagecoach festival alongside singers Lainey Wilson and Post Malone.
