‘Freckle on Wrist’ Challenge Goes Viral: Do You Have One?

A group of users on Twitter are claiming that all women have a freckle located in the middle of their wrists.

The tweet, posted on May 22, went viral, garnering tens of thousands of reactions.

“Ladies… you got a freckle on the middle of your wrist or is this a myth,” Aaryn, the user, asked on Twitter. She didn’t mention which wrist.

On Twitter, women began sharing photos of seemingly identical freckles on their respective wrists.

The response harks back to when people claimed to see a two different-colored dresses or hear “Yanny” or “Laurel” in other viral social media posts.

A freckle is a concentrated deposit of melanin on one spot of skin, and they often become darker when the skin is exposed to the sun.

The freckle sightings could merely be evidence that the back of the wrist is often exposed to sunlight.

“Low key freaking out,” one user responded.

However, some posted photos of their sans-a-freckle wrist, disproving the allegation that “all women” have it.

According to Healthline, “Freckles are small brown spots on your skin, often in areas that get sun exposure. In most cases, freckles are harmless. They form as a result of overproduction of melanin, which is responsible for skin and hair color (pigmentation). Overall, freckles come from ultraviolet (UV) radiation stimulation.”

The website says that the “credit for freckles goes to both the natural environment and genetics. Your risk for burning can increase the incidence of freckles.
