US Tariffs Take Effect on Dozens of Countries; Kremlin Predicts Trump–Putin Meeting in Coming Days | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 7)

U.S. tariffs took effect on imports from more than 60 countries first thing on Thursday morning as part of President Donald Trump’s push to balance trade and bring manufacturing back to the United States. A new rate of 15 percent was introduced on products from U.S. allies such as Japan and the European Union, while others face rates as high as 41 percent. Semiconductor chips will also be targeted, with levies of up to 100 percent imposed on chips made abroad—strongly encouraging manufacturers to make their goods in America.

The Kremlin says Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in the coming days, marking their first meeting since Trump returned to office. Putin suggested on Thursday that the United Arab Emirates could be the location for the meeting. The talks come ahead of Trump’s Friday deadline for Russia to halt its attacks on Ukraine or face more sanctions.
