2 Soldiers Die in Apache Helicopter Crash in Mississippi

Two soldiers died on Friday afternoon in northeast Mississippi when a military helicopter crashed, according to officials.

The AH-64 Apache went down near Boonville in Prentiss County in a wooded area during a routine training flight, according to the Mississippi National Guard.

The crash happened at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, according to reports from the Mississippi National Guard State Aviation Office.

The Prentiss County sheriff confirmed the deaths to the Mississippi National Guard.

“Our paramount concern at this time is to ensure proper casualty assistance is conducted to support the surviving family members,” the Mississippi National Guard said in a statement.

“Please keep the members of the Mississippi National Guard and their Families in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.”

The identities of the fallen soldiers were not revealed, only that they were members of the A Company 1-149 Aviation Regiment Unit and D Company 2-151 Lakota Medical Evacuation Unit, Mississippi National Guard.

In a press release, the state’s National Guard extended gratitude to first responders and safety crews still working at the accident scene with local authorities.

The incident is under investigation, and details are not being disclosed during this ongoing process.

Gov. Tate Reeves expressed his condolences and appreciation for the service of the fallen guardsmen.

“Mississippi will always be grateful for their service, and we will never forget them,” Mr. Reeves wrote in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.
