The FBI on Sept. 11 released a new video of the suspected gunman in the assassination of Charlie Kirk at a Utah college, as the agency seeks the public’s help to identify the individual.
Kirk, a conservative commentator who co-founded Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on Sept. 10 while speaking to a crowd of students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The shooter remains at large.
In a video released by the FBI, a suspected shooter is seen jumping off the roof of a building at the university with a backpack and leaving the scene.
A gun and ammunition believed to be the shooter’s were later recovered in a wooded area near the university, the FBI said in a statement, urging anyone with information to contact the agency.
Speaking at a Sept. 11 press conference, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said that law enforcement had received more than 7,000 leads and tips from the public, but that more help is needed to track down the shooter.
“We are truly hopeful that this video and new photos will lead to even more tips,” the governor told reporters. “We need as many … as much help as we can possibly get.”
Cox also noted that the FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
From the rooftop where the suspect was seen, investigators also collected trace evidence, which included shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print, the FBI stated.
The agency also released photos of a person of interest, showing an apparent white male wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, a black hat, sunglasses, and jeans.
Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said at the press conference that the suspect was wearing a distinctive black T-shirt with what appeared to be an American flag and an eagle on it.
The video also shows the suspect wearing a baseball cap with a triangle on it, sunglasses, and Converse tennis shoes, the commissioner added.
“Those are all identifiable items that we’re looking for,” Mason said. “All distinctive, all things that we would ask the public to look for and try to identify if they know someone who has those items, who has been seen wearing those items. We’re looking for all that information.”
Police earlier said that investigators recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle from a wooded area. The FBI is analyzing the weapon, which reportedly bears inscriptions and symbols, though officials have not released further details.
