Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has launched a new political action committee (PAC) to solicit donations to elect Democratic candidates to public offices.
The PAC is named “Fight for the People” and is a restructured version of Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, whose data it will use to court donations from progressives and Democrats across the United States to support candidates. The PAC’s announcement suggests that it will seek to spend money, likely millions of dollars, in support of these candidates during elections in 2026, when nearly 500 seats in the U.S. Congress and thousands of state offices across the country will hold elections on Nov. 3.
“I am going to travel, speak out, and help elect Democrats everywhere and I cannot do this alone,” Harris wrote in a text message to phone numbers obtained during the presidential campaign, which are on file with the PAC. “Donations are going to be critical.”
Harris’s message suggests that funds donated to the PAC will support her travel around the country to campaign for Democrats as a surrogate speaker. Doing so will enable her political activity and presence in the public eye during the upcoming election cycle, amid speculation that she may run for president again in the 2028 election.
Harris had previously reincorporated the organization as a PAC on Sept. 30. The entity is not a Super PAC and will have to report its donations and will be subject to campaign contribution limits when supporting candidates.
Several other high-profile Democratic politicians who have been suggested as candidates for the Democratic presidential primary contest in 2028 have launched such PACs. In 2023, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer launched the “Fight Like Hell PAC” to support her involvement in federal political campaigns. That same year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom launched “Campaign for Democracy” to support his advocacy against Republican policies in other states.
Harris’s announcement comes ahead of the Federal Election Commission’s fundraising deadline for PACs, which will occur at the end of the year on Dec. 31. The PAC’s fundraising until that point will be reported in January 2026 and serves as an indicator of how much money Harris will be able to spend.
Harris recently published a memoir, “107 Days,” about her 2024 campaign experience. She declined to seek the Democratic nomination for governor of California in the 2026 election, leaving open the possibility of running for president again.
