WASHINGTON D.C.— The Senate office buildings were evacuated on the afternoon of Aug. 2 after a “concerning 911 call” about a possible active shooter, according to U.S. Capitol Police.

Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger said at a press briefing shortly after 4 p.m. ET that they had “found nothing concerning” after officers searched the buildings.

“We’ve got nobody that has actually heard shots and certainly nobody no victims. As we’ve gone through the building, no one has said that they’ve seen the original lookout motion for a heavyset Hispanic male wearing body armor,” said Mr. Manger.

“We found no confirmation that there was an active shooter, and this may have been a bogus call.”

The spokesperson said that nearly 200 officers went through the three office buildings. One building was cleared while the other two were almost cleared.

Earlier in the afternoon at 2:45 p.m. ET Capitol Police posted on Twitter, now known as X, saying “Our officers are searching in and around the Senate Office Buildings in response to a concerning 911 call. Please stay away from the area as we are still investigating. We will continue to communicate with the public here.

“If you are inside the Senate Buildings, everyone inside should be sheltering in place as the report was for a possible active shooter. It should be noted that we do not have any confirmed reports of gunshots.”
