President Donald Trump has endorsed Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in Georgia’s gubernatorial race.

Jones was the first member of the Georgia Assembly to endorse Trump for president in the 2016 race, and also supported him in 2020 and 2024.

“He has been with us from the very beginning. I know his family well, and have seen Burt tested at the most difficult levels and times—He is a WARRIOR, a successful Businessman, former SEC Championship winning Georgia Bulldogs football player (Known for his toughness!), and now, as Lieutenant Governor, Burt has proven he has the Courage and Wisdom to deliver strong results for the incredible people of his wonderful State and Nation,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Aug. 11.

“As your next Governor, Burt Jones will fight hard to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Continue to Secure our now Secure Southern Border, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Advance Election Integrity, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.

“Burt Jones for Governor has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

Jones expressed appreciation for the endorsement.

“This endorsement means so much, not just because President @realDonaldTrump is my friend and a true leader, but because it shows our Georgia First movement is gaining momentum,” he wrote on X on Aug. 12.

Prior to being elected to the Georgia state Senate, Jones was an oil executive in his family’s petroleum business and founded an insurance company that is a subsidiary of the oil business.

He served in the state Senate between 2013 and 2023.

Other candidates in the GOP primary for Georgia governor include Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and Georgia Army National Guard member Ken Yasger.

The Democratic primary includes former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, state Rep. Derrick Jackson, state Sen. Jason Esteves, former DeKalb County CEO Mike Thurmond, and church founder Olujimi Brown.

Meanwhile, Trump has not endorsed anyone in the Senate race in Georgia. The Republican side includes Reps. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), and former football coach Derek Dooley. All three candidates have expressed support for Trump. The winner will face incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.).
