Pentagon Identifies 3rd Soldier Believed to Have Been Killed in Iranian Attack in Jordan

A United States soldier previously reported missing after an attack in Jordan is now believed to have been killed in action, the Department of War stated Tuesday.

She has been identified as Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, and is believed to have died during an enemy attack on July 17 at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

U.S. Central Command had previously reported Rampersad as missing following the attack.

Rampersad’s death raises the total number of U.S. troops killed in the Iran war to 18 since Operation Epic Fury began on Feb. 28.

Earlier Tuesday, the Pentagon identified two other soldiers who were killed on July 17 in action at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan to be 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales. They were killed by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ballistic missile and drone attacks on the air base.

Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was killed in action at Erbil Air Base in Iraq on July 19. Swinton died during a controlled detonation of an unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.

President Donald Trump responded to news of the U.S. soldiers’ deaths with a post on Truth Social on July 20.

“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump wrote. “This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.”

CENTCOM said the United States and its partners were defending against a set of deadly Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.

“I think sometimes when you look at this stuff, we take for granted that our military is so effective. But the mission they carry out is very, very dangerous,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters on July 21. “And so we lost people in Jordan after there was a strike. A missile got through. We shot down almost all the missiles. One leaked through, hit the wrong place, and it’s heartbreaking.”

Rubio continued: “Our hearts go out to the families of the heroes that paid the ultimate price. We also lost a service member in Iraq unrelated to combat. They were decommissioning ammunition and an accident happened in that process and they were harmed.”

July 21 marked the ninth straight day of attacks against Iran by the U.S. military in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
