WH Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting Suspect to Be Arraigned; King Charles’ Visit to US Going Ahead | NTD Good Morning (April 27)

The suspected gunman in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner is scheduled to appear in federal court in Washington on Monday to face criminal charges.

President Donald Trump, speaking on Sunday in an interview on 60 Minutes, said the suspect was radicalized. Authorities say the suspect breached a security checkpoint near the ballroom and opened fire, hitting a Secret Service agent. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were safely evacuated, along with Vice President J.D. Vance and Cabinet members.

The UK’s King Charles III will not cancel his state visit to the United States on Monday following safety concerns after Saturday’s shooting. Buckingham Palace said the “king and queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace” and that they are looking forward to the visit. The trip is to “celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence,” the palace added.

Tornadoes in Northern Texas have left at least two people dead and displaced more than a dozen families in northern Texas. Emergency responders are still working to clear debris, reach damaged homes, and provide medical care where needed. National Weather Service teams confirmed that an EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 135 mph touched down in the Runaway Bay area. An EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 105 mph was confirmed in the Springtown area, the weather service said.
